Terms of use

Last updated 6 October 2026

Read to Me turns photos of a Chinese picture book into an audio track you can play on a Yoto. It's a small family project shared with family and friends, so these terms are short and plain.

Use it only with books you own

Only photograph books you own (or that your family owns). The track is a private copy of the book for your own child to listen to.

Keep tracks private

Tracks are for your family's private listening. Don't share them with other families, post them online, or sell them, even to someone who owns the same book. The words and pictures belong to the book's author and publisher.

Check for official audio first

Many Chinese picture books come with official audio, often through a QR code inside the cover. If your book has it, use that instead.

What happens to your photos

To make a track, your photos are sent to Anthropic (Claude) to read the text, and the text is sent to Google Cloud to turn it into speech. Both handle it under their business API terms. Read to Me keeps each book (its photos and the text read from them) in your account, visible only to you, so you can come back to it. Photos are deleted within a day of making the audio, and after 30 days at most; only the text is kept, so the track can be made again. Tracks are not stored: download them. Delete a book to remove everything. Only photograph book pages, nothing else personal.

It can make mistakes

The app can misread a word or skip text it can't see. It shows you what it read before making the audio, and blocks the audio when text is hidden. Still, listen to a new track before relying on it. The app is provided as is, with no guarantees.

Access

Access is by invitation, with your Google account. The app stores your name and email to know it's you, the date you agreed to these terms, and what each book cost to make, for a monthly usage limit. Access can be changed or removed at any time. Questions? Ask the person who invited you.
